Modern Tables

acrylic paint and transparent glazes

These tables invited a modern turn for Lesley’s work. Working in a Mondrian-esque fashion, Lesley used rectilinear shapes on the blank surface, but found that the space called for more intrigue. She incorporated curves to break up the space, imbuing the surface with liveliness—often uncharacteristic for modernism, but distinctly Lesley’s approach.

A beautiful vegetative design is subtly painted on the top of the tables, each section with a unique character. The black-and-white stripe around the sides exemplifies the competing patterns characteristic of Lesley’s work, but her ability to have symbiotic relationships between patterns holds true.
