Heirloom Armoire

acrylic paint and transparent glazes

Taking an heirloom armoire of a family moving out west, Lesley used ‘Arizona colors’ that reflected red rocks and orange skies with beautiful turquoise. The beautiful turquoise with a subtle ornamental pattern provided a calming base for rich orange and red hues.

Compared to Lesley’s other works with loud patterns, this piece embodies a heirloom aesthetic, drawing on the classical shape of the armoire and tailoring the design in accordance. The doors are highlighted on the front, each their own art piece, opening up to the ombre reds and oranges with vegetative designs that are beautifully highlighted by slight tone differences. With the side of the armoire, Lesley incorporates pattern, but with simplicity so as not to draw from the classic architecture of the furniture.

With this piece, not only did Lesley listen carefully to the structure of the armoire so as to enhance its beauty, but also gave an heirloom a second life, to move on to another chapter.
